We read the bonus terms of 52 online casinos

Advertised wagering multipliers are not comparable between casinos, because they are not applied to the same thing. We went and checked.

What the data shows

01

The headline multiplier is not a comparable number

9 of the 32 offers that state a basis — 28.1% — apply the wagering requirement to the deposit and the bonus rather than the bonus alone. On a 100% match that doubles the work, so an advertised 35x at one casino can cost exactly as much as 70x at another. Comparing the printed multipliers across operators is close to meaningless unless you check the basis first.

02

Converted to one yardstick, the real median is 40x of the bonus

Expressing every offer as a multiple of the bonus alone gives a median of 40x and a mean of 46.2x, against an advertised median of 35x. The number in the marketing understates the actual playthrough for a large minority of the market.

03

Requirements range from 10x to 80x

Across 32 offers that publish a multiplier, the spread is eightfold. The best and worst terms are not marginally different — they are different products. Only 4 offers sit below 30x, while 15 sit at 40x or above.

04

Max bet: the median is EUR 5, the mean is EUR 101.5

That gap exists because a handful of outliers run as high as EUR 1800. The typical offer caps you at around EUR 5 per spin while a bonus is active, and breaching that cap is one of the most common reasons winnings are voided. Here the mean tells you nothing and the median tells you everything.

05

The advertised maximum bonus is set by extremes

Median maximum bonus is EUR 500; the mean is EUR 7663.9, pulled up by offers reaching EUR 90000. The 'up to' figure on the banner is not what a normal deposit produces.

06

Median time limit is 14 days, but the range is 1 to 90

The requirement and the clock apply together. A 80x requirement inside a short window demands a turnover pace most casual players never reach before the balance expires — which is the point of pairing them.

07

Free spins carry their own wagering

Median free spin count is 100 (mean 199.5, inflated by a few very large promotions), and winnings from them carry a separate median requirement of 35x. Spins are not free money; they are a second wagering obligation inside the same deadline.

08

Every casino that states an e-wallet policy excludes them

All 7 of the 7 operators in the sample that address the question at all exclude Skrill and Neteller deposits from bonus eligibility. It is enforced at the moment of deposit, and it is almost never shown on the deposit screen.

Where this leaves the casinos we promote

We should be straight about this: all eight of the operators listed on this site fall into the harsher 28.1% that apply wagering to deposit plus bonus. Their advertised 35x is, in effective terms, 70x of the bonus. That is worse than the market median we measured, and readers deserve to know it before they deposit.

Method

  1. Six independent searches, each approaching the market from a different angle (licence jurisdiction, target market, crypto acceptance, brand age), produced 115 distinct casino brands.
  2. For each brand we located the operator's own bonus terms or promotions page, falling back to a review quoting the terms verbatim, and extracted the fields in the table above along with the source URL.
  3. Every extracted record was then passed to a second, independent pass instructed to refute it rather than confirm it, with particular attention to whether the multiplier applies to the bonus or to deposit plus bonus. 14 records were corrected at this stage and unsupported ones were dropped.
  4. 52 brands yielded locatable terms. 17 were rated low confidence and excluded, leaving a final sample of 35.

Limitations

  • The sample skews toward operators serving continental Europe and offshore markets; it is not a random sample of all online casinos worldwide.
  • Not every casino publishes every field, so each metric states how many offers it is based on. Fields are never imputed.
  • Amounts in other currencies were converted approximately, which affects the euro figures but not the multipliers.
  • Bonus terms change without notice. These figures describe the market as read in August 2026.
